Old Serbian Distillery

Old Serbian Distillery is specialized in distilling and producing a brandy type of product called "Rakija" which  literally means

" Sweat Wine " , and  is a collective term for fruit brandy popular in the balkan region .

Common flavors  of fruit brandy are Slivovitz  (“šljivovica” ), produced from plums, Apricot brandy (“kajsija”), produced from apricots, or Grape brandy (“grozdova - lozova” ) in Bulgaria,(raki rrushi ) in Albania, or ("lozovača" - "komovica" ) in Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, that is produced from grapes, the same as ("Zivania" ) in Cyprus Greece.

Fruits less commonly used  in producing Rakija type of fruit brandy are:  peaches, apples, pears, cherries, figs, blackberries, and quince. Similar spirits are produced in Romania, Moldova, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia and the Caucasus.

In Albania, "rakia" or "rakija" is most commonly made out of grapes in mild climate regions, and out of plums (and sometimes out of mulberry, thanë (carnelian cherry), or walnuts)  in mostly  colder climate areas.

General History About Slivovitz ( Šljivovica )

The word "Slivovitz" is borrowed from the Slavic word for plum or (more specifically) for damson plum. The plum is the national fruit of Serbia and not surprisingly, Slivovitz is the national drink of Serbia, as Slivovitz has been in domestic production in Balkan region for centuries.

There is a place adorned not only by a most unusual name, golden glades and fresh mountain air, but by thousands of plum trees as well. The flavoursome fruits gathered from these trees are used to make the best homemade plum brandy better known as Rakija. The place we’re talking about is a village called ( " Šljivovica " )

Slivovitz located in Serbia !

If you ever wondered how this famous Serbian national alcoholic drink got branded as Serbian, now you know.  Slivovitza received the PDO (Protected designation of origin) status precisely because of the village of Slivovitza - ( " Šljivovica " ).

Why ( Šljivovica ) - Old Serbian Slivovitz is so Special?

The Old Serbian Slivovitz  is famous not only because of the rich soil where the plums grows from, but because of the specific way it’s manufactured. The craftsmen make this traditional drink and  store it in special barrels made from oak and locust-trees which give the Slivovitza its warm and golden color.

The production process isn’t simple either  :

First the plums are picked, and put in the barrels to ferment. After  Slivovitza is being distilled for the first time, mash (komina) is added, and the mixture is then redistilled. Though it might not sound too complicated, rest assured that good Rakija takes a fair amount of effort, time and experience to make. And if you lack even one of these three attributes, then try the best Slivovitza (" Šljivovica "),  made by
